This week's question is:

Q: Have you ever had a character you intended to kill refuse to be killed?

My answer is: Not yet! I have not written any character that is meant to be killed in my story so they haven't reach the "refused to be killed" stage. Perhaps I'll have one in the future if I consider writing a darker story. Interesting thought! At the moment, I have my hands full of landing my characters in hospitals with injuries but no, I have no intention to kill them!

Q: When did you know you wanted to be a writer? Did you share it with people or keep it to yourself?

I've been an avid reader since I was a toddler, starting with picture books then going on to children's books and then to novels. I never thought about writing until I was around 12 years old and was so heavily in love with the Japanese anime/manga Cardcaptor Sakura that I actually started writing fan fiction whenever I have any free time in class. It is really interesting to play with my favourite characters in my mind and put them in my stories. I published them on FanFiction.Net under then pen name sakuraakamichelle. None of my friends knew I wrote those stories and they were pretty surprised when I told them years later. Many still remain in the dark. I went into a writing slump when I was around 15 years old and I stopped writing altogether to focus on my studies. Getting good grades are very important here after all. However, the thought of being a writer never got stuck in my head until early this year when I started reading YA. That is when I know I want to write something--my own story with my own characters. Lovely. Instead of keeping it a total secret, I shared my being a writer to some of my close friends and my family. To my surprise, they are very supportive! But then, it isn't considered a "real job" so I still have to hunt for a "real" one. Some of my friends often ask me if I have had any interviews lately, which is kind of demoralizing. I definitely prefer writing! Can I consider writing as my permanent job, please?

Q: Do you outline your writing

It depends on what I'm writing. When writing fan fictions, I'm a panster. I never plan ahead for fan fictions and I'll just post chapters by chapters online after I've finished them. I imagine the scenes in my head like a movie beforehand and just write them out like that. For my current works, I'm actually learning how to outline the whole book and filling out the scenes. It's all pointers and nothing elaborate. I don't wish to take the fun out of writing by planning so in depth. It's tough to make the transition and I had to redo my outline a few times. It is time-consuming, at least for me. Sometimes, I was so tempted to switch back to being a panster again. So... Yeah, I do outline my writing but only to a certain extent.

Q: When and where do you do most of your writing?

I do all my writing at my table, where by laptop is located. I'm usually lazy to unplug my laptop adapter so I'm always at my table. I find that I write more during the night as I'm not as distracted as I am during the day. That's when I get most of my things done as I stayed up pretty late into the night. However, I'm challenging myself to writing in the day so I'll get more word count up!

Q: What is your favorite thing about your current WIP?

This is the first WIP I did an outline for. I did spend quite some time on it so it's my favorite thing right now. I used to be a panster while writing fan fictions, thinking chapter by chapter and never plan ahead. So, this is something different for me. I'm looking forward to completing my MS after my exams this coming Monday. The outline definitely helps.

This week's question is:

Q: Which author(s) has been your greatest inspiration?

I have many since I read a lot of books this year alone. My greatest inspiration comes from mainly a few authors: Sarah Alderson, Cassandra Clare, Julie Kagawa and even J.K Rowlings!

I had the fortune to come across Sarah's Hunting Lila and was immediately taken by her writing style that I even went to buy the book after borrowing it from the library. I even went on to buying her second book without any reservation. 

Cassandra spins a wonderful tale of Shadow Hunters. I love the way she describes things and portrays her characters' feelings. The tension between the relationship of the main characters is definitely read-worthy.

Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series is AMAZING! It's complete with emotions, actions and beautiful descriptions. It feels like nothing else exists whenever I read the series.

J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series has accompanied me throughout my growing up stages. Love her magical school.

How they inspired me? I love the worlds they have built within their books and they never cease to amaze me whenever I read them. Their books are the best that I've read so far and they greatly inspires me to try to build one of my own.
